Winter Solstice Class
The winter solstice or midwinter marks the shortest period of daylight and longest night when the sun is at its lowest elevation in the sky. For centuries it has been seen across cultures as a time for ritual and festivals. Symbolically, the winter solstice represents regeneration and renewal as it signifies the rebirth of the sun and a gradual shift to longer days and more daylight. It is also a time for self-reflection.
In this class, we’ll create space to turn inwards and explore gentle practices that slowly galvanize and harness our energy. As usual, the session will be divided into two parts beginning with a dynamic slow flow before melting into deeply nourishing restorative yoga to soothe and calm body and mind.

This class will offer you the space to do just that with a mindful slow flowing yang practice to anchor the attention inwards and draw the energy down. Soothing and relaxing yin yoga will round off the evening accompanied by breath work and inquiry - a chance to turn yet deeper inwards and reflect.

April Intensive
As we finally move out of the colder months, April offers us the chance to shake off our winter hibernation and enjoy the renewed energy of spring. What better time then, to dive deeper into the practice of yoga and join me for this year's April Intensive challenge. Every April and August I teach a five day Intensive: a Monday to Friday practice of early morning yoga.
Each morning will start with a 7am session of dynamic, flowing hatha yoga designed to energise and awaken the body and mind. Classes will end with a guided relaxation leaving you ready to face the day ahead with a smile. The sequence will vary daily and as an open level class options will be offered to suit your level of ability, however, as the Intensive features a flowing style of yoga it is not recommended for the complete beginner. Some experience (especially of sun salutations) is advisable.
Each Intensive centres around a theme which for April 2024 is 'breath: exploring pranayama'. Alongside the physical practice of yoga, this week will shine alight on the breath: its power, importance and influence on us as humans and specific yogic practices for harnessing its potential. So, as well as five sessions of physical yoga, you'll get a daily dose breath work, a calmer nervous system and maybe learn more about yourself in the process.
All classes will be recorded to offer the option of practicing again or at a later date.

August Intensive
Join me in August for the second and final intensive challenge of 2023 – 5 days of consecutive early morning yoga. With summer in full swing, this Monday to Friday practice is a great way to make the most of light-filled mornings and warmer days with a daily 7-8am flow class.
The theme for the week is ‘exploring the niyamas in asana’. The niyamas are the second limb of the Eight Limbs of Yoga and are a set of moral and ethical principles first laid out by Patajanli in his Yoga Sutras. Designed to positively impact our yoga practice, they provide a supportive framework for development and we'll look specifically at how they might be applied to our movement practice.
The August Intensive challenge will be held each morning at The Stables Yoga Centre as well as online via Zoom. Classes will be recorded to offer the option of practicing again or at a later date.
Each day we'll kick start the morning with a dynamic flowing hatha class to revitalise and inspire. The class will wake up your body, lift your energy and focus your mind. The sequence will vary each day and options will be offered to suit your level of ability. The intensive, however, is best suited to those with some experience of yoga (especially sun salutations) and not the complete beginner.

Yoga Therapeutics: Mind + Heart (Part 2)
In the second half of this two-part workshop series, we’ll continue looking at how yogic techniques can help manage stress, anxiety and depression. This time however, we’ll address ‘top down’ approaches such as mindfulness, meditation, self-compassion and inquiry work. As the mind and body are intimately connected, one can influence the other. Here, the mind will be the focus with some physical practice woven in as a support. There’ll also be theory and discussion, plus you’ll receive a handout and guided audio practice to take home. Please note, the group size for this event is deliberately small so please book your place in advance.

Yoga Therapeutics: Body + Breath (Part 1)
In this two-part workshop series, we’ll explore how the physical practices of yoga, along with breath work, can support stress, anxiety and depression. Clearly recognised by modern science - evidenced by numerous studies - yoga has the potential to positively impact mental health and wellbeing, and here we’ll look at how. Sometimes labelled as ‘bottom-up’ approaches, the morning will be dedicated to the direct experience or physical application of these techniques and their impact on our mind, body and our nervous system. There’ll also be theory and discussion, plus you’ll receive a handout and guided audio practice to take home. Please note, the group size for this event is deliberately small so please book your place in advance.

April Intensive
Join me in April for an intensive challenge - 5 days of consecutive early morning yoga.
As the Easter holiday approaches and we get deeper into spring, it’s time to shake off winter's hibernation and get moving! During this Monday to Friday practice, we'll kick start the morning with a dynamic flow from 7-8am, designed to revitalise and inspire.
The sequence will vary each day and options will be offered to suit your level of ability, however the intensive is best suited to those with some experience of yoga (especially sun salutations). Not for the complete beginner.
The theme for the week is 'exploring the yamas in asana' or in other words, weaving the teachings of yoga philosophy into the physical practice. The yamas are the first step of the Eight Limbs of Yoga set out by Patajali in his Yoga Sutras. As a set of moral and ethical principles, the yamas are designed to positively impact our yoga practice and provide a supportive framework for development. Asana is the word for posture and so during this intensive week, we'll look at how the yamas can be applied to our physical movement practice.
The April Intensive challenge will run each morning at The Stables Yoga Centre and online via Zoom. Classes will be recorded so you have the option to practice again or at a later date if you can’t attend live.

Yoga for stress, anxiety + depression
In recent years, modern science is catching up with what the ancient yogis have known for centuries; that yoga can positively effect the mind and body. The emerging field of yoga therapy offers an alternative approach to mental and physical wellness based on these ancient teachings but backed up by recent developments in neuroscience and psychotherapy.
In this workshop we'll explore yogic practices to support stress, anxiety and depression. Although very common human experiences, these emotions can hugely impact a person's mental, emotional and physical health and wellbeing.
Using a combination of yoga asana (postures), pranayama (breathing practices) and mindfulness to build awareness of what's happening in the mind and body during these conditions, we'll then apply specific practices to encourage a move towards greater nervous system regulation. The workshop will involve theory, discussion and practice so please wear something comfortable that allows you to move freely.
